The National Park Hohe Tauern

The Gastein Valley is adjacent to the National Park Hohe Tauern. It is an area of 1,836 km2, one of the largest nature reserves in Europe. The park has many highlights including the highest mountain in Austria, the Grossglockner (3789 m), the longest glacier in the eastern Alps: the Pasterzengletsjer and the highest waterfalls in Europe: the Krimml Falls. Hohe Tauern has all the ingredients for a successful active holiday in Austria close to nature.

The park has more than 266 peaks of 3,000 m and above, 342 glaciers with a total area of 130 km2, 57  glacial streams, 26 decent waterfalls and 551 lakes. In the Hohe Tauern more than 10,000 animals are living and more than one third of al the animals in Austria are living there.
